Biography of Elizabeth Morgan

Birth

Elizabeth "Beth" Morgan was born about 1726 at Bedford, Colony of Virginia.[citation needed] Her parents were Thomas Morgan and Lettice Evans. The will of Thomas Morgan names 4th his daughter Elizabeth Vardman.

Marriage

Marriage to John Wilhelm Vardeman possibly occurred in Bedford County, Virginia. In the history of her son the Reverend Jeremiah Vardaman, it places their marriage in South Carolina. Conflicting information needs to be resolved with evidence.

Her husband, John, called her "Beth" in the record of their consent for daughter Jemimah to marry William Pope.[1]

Death

Unknown date or place. Wikitree forces a date, but it is unknown. 1812 is the current best educated guess given David's Fork Baptist Church records.

Note comment below about Elizabeth's death from wikitree user Janet (Willcoxon) de la Peña: "Elizabeth Morgan Vardeman may be referred to in the following source as the "Mrs. Vardeman" who died in 1812, according to David's Fork Baptist Church records, Fayette County, KY. Her burial location is unknown. [3]

Another source suggests a different theory on Elizabeth's death. A Roots web source [citation needed] that both Elizabeth and John Vardeman died and were buried in Crestwood, Missouri (a suburb of St Louis). It also has their marriage as 1740. [citation needed]

Name Variations

Vardaman is variously spelled as Vardman, Vardiman, Vardaman, and Vardeman.

In her father's will: MORGAN, THOMAS Bedford Co., Va. Will filed May 23, 1774, she is listed as Elizabeth Vardman (not Vardeman or Vardiman).
A history of the family of Morgan, from the year 1089 to present times by Appleton Morgan, ca. 1902. p. 92, says that Elizabeth Morgan, sister to Lewis, ``married John Vordman.

Research

It is said that John Vardeman was buried in Capt John Sappington's family estate cemetery. Now this is truly a puzzle. I looked in this area and have never found it; am going on a hunt today... see if I can find it. I did find this (http://www.schs.ws/schs2/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/bluefolderscanableBookScanStation-2016-04-08-12-00-24-PM.pdf) note that he is NOT listed here. However Capt John Sappington is buried about 3 to 4 hours away by car - a long way from Crestwood. (https://mostateparks.com/sites/mostateparks/files/sappingtoncemetery_datasheet_01_2018.pdf)

At least two children of Thomas Morgan moved to Pulaski County, Kentucky about 1800: Lewis with his son Adonijah and Leatice (Letitia) with her second husband John Powell and her Richardson children from her first marriage. Later, several of Elizabeth Vardaman's grandchildren and Lewis' son, Adonijah, are in Fayette County, Indiana at the same time.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:

Looking at the permission to marry for daughter Sabra to Rane McKinney 1797 https://www.wikitree.com/photo/jpg/McKinney-1651 we see that Elizabeth is married to a Heagis Logan. Had John died at this point? John's son, Rev. Jeremiah has been disproven on much of his family history recordings. It is very unlikely that John lived to be 108 and died around 1835. Thoughts?

"Heagis" was a common nickname of years gone by. On Rane and Sabra's marriage record, witness-Heagis Logan and Sabra's mother-Elizabeth Morgan's names were both "signed" in the witnesses' spaces. (Why did they use her maiden name, "Morgan"?) Appears the signer of their names was in a hurry!

Morgan-9208 and Morgan-1014 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, exact same spouse on both profiles, similar birth info, similar death info

Thank you for reviewing, Teresa (WikiTree Arborist)

Note on mystery man. Morgin Hogins is a very badly mangled miss-transcribed version of John’s name on the marriage record for daughter Tabitha’s marriage to Rane McKinney. I’m removing this profile because there was no such person. I put a copy of it on Tabitha’s profile.

Following up on merge request. The duplicates seem to be driven by the inclusion of an undocumented middle name, and an erroneous place of marriage. Rather than quibble over spelling, some attention to facts is sorely needed.

Can you cite your source for Elizabeth Morgan's middle name of Taylor?

There are errors in both profiles, but this is the same person as Morgan-1014. Please merge so the profiles can be cleaned up.

Morgan-8148 and Morgan-1014 appear to represent the same person because: Appears to be duplicate; only one Elizabeth Morgan was married to John Vardeman. Thanks.
