Clifford Reuben Morgan1897-1898
This story was written by Sylvia Morgan Reid, a daughter of Reuben and Johannah R. Erickson Morgan. I always wondered how Clifford died, so I have retold it here. Marla Morgan Bezold, great granddaughter of Reuben and Johannah R. Erickson Morgan.
Clifford Ruben Morgan was the eldest child in his family. He was born on 24 November 1897 to Reuben Willard Morgan (Rube) and his wife Johannah Rebecca Erickson (Hannah). He was born in Mill Creek, Utah. His parents had been married in the Salt Lake Temple. They drove there in a buggy and had to return to Mill Creek because Hannah was not quite old enough to get married, so they had to bring her mother back to the temple so she could state that Hannah could marry Reuben.
Clifford Ruben Morgan died on 14 April 1898 in Mill Creek, Salt Lake, Utah, of something that his mother called "membranous croup"[diphtheria]. He was about 4 and 1/2 months old when he died. This left his parents in total sorrow, to say the least. Hannah, his mother, later told her other younger children about feeling that her "empty arms" were missing something and how her heart ached from having no one to fill them. The feeling would not go away.
