Biography

Andrew Morgan was born on June 1856 in Barrick St, Dundalk, Louth, Ireland. His parents were Bernard Morgan and Ann Spence. He was christened on June 26, 1856 at their local parish in Dundalk. [1]

Andrew married Kate Sandys on June 28, 1885 at the Roman Catholic Church in Dundalk, Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. Andrew was 24 years old, single and a seaman. Kate was listed as full age but was technically one year younger (20 years old). Her father James Sandy's was listed as a merchant and his father, Bernard Morgan, was a Captain. Witnesses to the marriage were Joseph Sandys and Lizze Everett. [2] [3] Together they had two children, Bernard Morgan and James Morgan.

Sometime after the death of their son James near the end of 1887, Andrew immigrated to the United States. It's unclear if Kate went with him, or if she died in Ireland, but in on April 27, 1892 he married Alice Mackin in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States. [4] Together they had 5 children:

  2. Mary Morgan
  3. Alice Morgan
  4. Andrew Morgan
  5. Thomas Morgan

In 1900 he was recorded during the United States census with his wife Alice and their first three children, and his son Bernard from his first marriage at their home in Hoboken, New Jersey. [5]

Alice died in 1902 leaving him a widow again with five young children. He married her sister Elizabeth Mackin on March 21, 1909 at Old St Patrick's Church in Manhattan, New York. Witnesses were John McNamera and Elvira Fasano. [6] Together they had one son.

  • Richard Eugene Morgan (1909–2006)

In 1910 he was working as a rigger on the docks and living with his wife Lizzie, his son Andrew and their brand infant son Richard. They were living on Jefferson Street in Hoboken, New Jersey. [7]

In 1920 he was living with his wife and son Richard at their home on Willow Avenue in Hoboken, New Jersey. He was employed as a cleaner for the street department. [8]

He died on February 11, 1934 in Hudson County Hospital, Laurell Hill, Secaucus, Hudson, New Jersey, United States. (source needed)
