Biography

Maude was born in 1921. She was the daughter of George Morgan and Minta Belcher. She passed away in 2013. ^[1]

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Maudie Louise Pennington, 91, of Martinsville, formerly of Oceana, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 21, 2013, at Blue Ridge Manor of Martinsville.

Maudie was born December 29, 1921, at Elk Lick, a daughter of the late George Leander Morgan (1894-1957) and Arminta Caroline Belcher-Morgan (1885-1950).

She was a loving mother and homemaker. She was a founding member of the Oceana First Church of God, and attended the Martinsville First Church of God. She enjoyed painting, helping others and being with her family and friends. She was a charter member of the WCG of the Oceana First Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Clyde "Jim" Pennington (1920-2008) whom she married on May 9, 1946 in Kopperston, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1946, Page 464, Application Date: May 6, 1946); four brothers: Lawrence Morgan (1907-Deceased), Elmer Morgan (1911-Deceased), Charles "Charlie" Morgan (1915-1992) and Ula Morgan (1918-Deceased); six sisters: Ada Morgan-Walls (1900-Deceased), Bessie Mae Morgan-Bailey (1920-1982), Ora Morgan-Stollings (1913-Deceased), Blanche Virginia Morgan-Cook (1924-2010), Corba Morgan-Lester (1905-Deceased) and Lenna Morgan-Cook (1909-1994); one great-grandchild, Nathaniel Peyton Childers (Deceased).

Left to cherish her memory are one son, James E. Pennington and his wife Denise of Clinton, Tenn., and two daughters, Carolyn A. Pennington-Childers and her husband Charles Childers of Axton, Va., and Tammy G. Pennington-Walker and her husband Robert Walker of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a sister Daisy Morgan-Brown (B. 1928) of Vinton, Va.; five grandchildren, James Chad Pennington and wife Mary Robin, Andrea M. Dubois and husband David, Chuck Childers, Jimmy Childers and wife Kim, and Morgan Walker; eight great-grandchildren, Jamison Cole Pennington, Robert Luke Pennington, Chadwick Gage Pennington, David Cade Dubois, Jacob Malcolm Childers, Lydia Morgan Childers, Tamara LaShay Childers and Jace Dylan Repass; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends will meet for graveside services at 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 27, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton. There will be no procession going to the cemetery.

Friends may gather with the family from 5 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, at the Oceana First Church of God; a celebration service will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a final viewing for the family and friends, with Pastors William Wagner, Charles Childers, Perry Blankenship and Rick Brown officiating.
