Mary's husband Francis "Henry" Luscombe was killed in train accident on July 4,1884 in the first year of their marriage and before their daughter Mary E. " Lizzie" was born. Allegany was originally called Burton during the time Mary was born and was changed to Allegany about 1851. She grew up there and was the only surviving child of William and Phebe Ludden Morgan. Her father started a mill in what is today called Morgan Hollow. He damned the creek to create a holding pond for the mill. This pond shows up on early maps in the 1850's. Since that time there have been 2 ponds created after earlier ones were breached during floods. In the late 1860's William sold his land and mill and moved his family to Lyons, Ionia County Michigan. They appear there in the 1870 census. Her obituary in the local newspaper incorrectly listed her father's name as Henry. It seemed to confuse her husband and father's names. Her husband died before their daughter was born.
