Biography

Jack Deubler was born in 1896 in Kaufman County, Texas. (His Find A Grave Memorial says January, but the 1900 Census and the Security Death Index say April.[1] An edit suggestion has been sent to the creator of his Find A Grave Memorial.) His name at birth was William McKinley Morgan. His mother was Averilla Gilcrease who was married to someone with the last name Morgan. (See Research Notes.) In 1900, according to the United States Census for Kaufman County, Texas, his widowed mother, he, and his sister, Lillie, were living in the household of James Mitchell where his mother was working as the housekeeper,[2]

in 1910, he was living in the household of his step-father, August Deubler,[3] At some time, he officially changed his name to Jack Deubler.

He first married Edith G. Meacher before 1920 and is listed with her on the 1920 United States Census for Maricopa County, Arizona. At that time he was employed as a machinist for the railway.[4]

Child:

  1. Edith[5]

He married Montre Bertha Muffett on January 5, 1926 in Florence, Pinal County, Arizona.[6]

Children (according to the 1940 United State Census for Maricopa County, Arizona:[7]

  1. Jack R.
  2. D. Idell
  3. Terry E.

He passed away in 1978. Though there is a memorial page for him at FindAGrave.com, his burial place is said to be unknown.[8]

An obituary for Jack Deubler appeared in the Arizona Republic, Wednesday, October 18, 1978, on page 41.[9] The obituary says that Jack Deubler was a Veteran of World War I and that he worked for the Salt River Project, the electrical utility for the Phoenix, Arizona area, for 37 years. According to the obituary, he was a member of the American Legion and was a Freemason. The obituary lists his second wife and all four of his children.

Research Notes

Who was his biological father? There are Ancestry.com Trees with Noah Tipton Morgan and Jackson Morgan recorded as his father and he is linked at FamilySearch.org as the son of Noah Tipton Morgan. Neither are listed in any records so far found for him. The theory that Noah Tipton Morgan is his father seems, to me, to be unlikely. The 1900 United States Census records that his mother, Averilla Morgan, was a widow. According to census records, Noah Tipton Morgan was alive and married to someone else in 1900; he had married Dovie Ray in 1897. Also, the 1910 United States Census Record for Noah Tipton Morgan says that his marriage to Dovie Ray was his first marriage. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jack by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jack:
