James Wesley Morgan was born 24 May 1875 in Cooks Mill, Coles Co., Illinois, son of Henry Anderson Morgan and Sarah Ellen Janes. Ages of parents at the time of his birth: father-31, b. KY and mother-23, b. IL. James was the fourth child born to this couple. 16 June 1880--James was 5 and lived with his parents and siblings in East Nelson, Moultrie Co., Illinois. In the household: Henry A Morgan-36, whose business was farming, and Sarah E -28. Children in the home: Alice I(sabelle) -10; David -7; James W -5; Martha L , aged 1 Also, George Davis, a 20 year-old farm laborer. All members of the hh born in Illinois.
02 June 1900--The Morgan family lived in North Okaw Twp, Coles Co., Illinois. Members of the household: Henry A Morgan-a farmer, aged 56, b. JAN 1844 and Sarah E, his wife of 31 years, aged 48, b. APR 1852. She had given birth to 6 children/6 still living and in the home. James W., a farm hand, aged 25, b. MAY 1875; William M-19. b. MAY 1881; twins, Rosie E -16 and Henry A-16, both born in MAR 1884; John P-11, b. DEC 1889 and George V, aged 10, b. MAY 1890. All born in IL.
27 September 1910--Minnie A Huff and James W Morgan applied for a marriage license in Hendricks, Indiana, where they both resided. James, a laborer, had been born 24 May 1875 in Illinois and was the son of Henry A. and Sarah E. (James) Morgan, both deceased. Minnie's father, Jefferson had passed away, but her mother still lived in Illinois and was a housekeeper, like her daughter. Minnie had been married once before, but divorced in 1909. This was a first marriage for James. They were married 27 September 1910 (the same day as license) in a ceremony officiated by W. S. Christy, J. P.
1910, their daughter, Clydia Morgan was born in Kentucky.
Apparently, they were divorced, as they remarried each other.

12 SEP 1918--James Wesley Morgan, born 24 May 1875 and a resident of Arthur, Coles Co., IL, registered for the WW I Draft. He was a 43 year-old laborer employed by Frank Seamon. His wife Minnie was his nearest relative. Picture him medium height and build with blue eyes and black hair.
06 January 1920-- James W Morgan-44 and his wife, Minnie A Morgan-39 and their daughter, "Clidia" (Clydia) Morgan, aged 10, b. in Kentucky, resided in North Okaw, Cole Co, Illinois. James worked as a farm manager. His father had been born in KY and mother in IL.

06 April 1940--Listed as "Morgon"J in the census, James-64 and Minnie-59 lived in Ward 5, Mattoon, Mattoon Township, Coles, Illinois, where they had moved to from Cumberland Co. after 01 April 1935. James was a laborer on a street project.
