James was born on the 3rd November 1848[1] in West Woodlands, Somerset, England and baptised on the 2nd December 1848 at St. John, Frome Selwood, Somerset, England, the son of James Morgan (labourer) and Fanny Morgan of West Woodlands[2].
James moved to Horningsham between 1861 and 1868, when at the age of 20 years, he was killed in a tragic accident[3].
"HORNINGSHAM" FATAL ACCIDENT - On Monday last {21st December 1868}, as a young man of this village, named james Morgan, was digging sand in a pit, several tons of earth, which he had neglected to remove, fell in upon him and completely buried him. He was not found for several hours after the accident happened. Death resulted from suffocation, and a verdict to that effect was given at an inquest held on the body on Wednesday."[4]
He was buried just 3 months after his sister Rosa on the 26th December 1868 at St. John, Frome Selwood, Somerset, England[5].
