Biography

Research notes

Thomas served as a Captain in the French and Indian War. The war happened long after he died...the war was 1754-1763

Thomas was the owner of a large tract of land that became Morgantown Pennsylvania.

Morgantown was named after Colonel Jacob Morgan, who laid out the town around 1770. His father, Thomas, had been a native of Wales, a captain in the French and Indian War, and owner of a large tract of choice land in Caernarvon Township. Jacob Morgan settled in this area around 1765, building a large stone house, which still stands on Hartz Road between Mineview Drive and Shiloh Road. It is rumored to have housed George Washington during a brief overnight visit. The house has been restored by its owners. Morgantown was, an agriculture-based settlement.

Marriage to Elizabeth Griffith in 1708 in Wales, means they came to Pennsylvania after 1708 which matches the data below.[1]

The Thomas Morgan (ca 1685) family settled in what is now Morgantown, Berks County, PA.Some say the came from Radnor the Quaker community. Thomas and Elizabeth Morgan applied for a Warrant of land in 1718 at the head waters of the Conestoga Creek. Eventually, Thomas owned over one thousand acres of land in the valley. He had four sons. William, Francis (all children's births recorded in a Bible), John and Jacob. Jacob, a Col. in the French and Indian War served at Fort Augustus, now Juniata, PA. He also served in the Rev. War. Jacob is responsible for the founding of the town of Morgantown.

I think it was Jacob Morgan that was the captain. http://www.caernarvon.org/history/background.html

There is a discrepancy here. Elizabeth Abrey is listed as the children's mother, who are born in 1711 and 1716. It also states that Thomas married Elizabeth Griffith in 1708. Wouldn't that make Griffith the mother. This line is confused over all genealogy sites. Documentation needed.

Morgan-7471 and Morgan-4209 appear to represent the same person because: same birth, death dates and places

I need to have the sources added for the data about him serving in the French and Indian War, I think we still may have father Thomas and son, Thomas confused.

For the profile managers, I believe that I have found that Elizabeth Abrey is actually his mother. I am looking for more information.

Morgan-14423 and Morgan-7471 appear to represent the same person because: based on son, these are intended to be the same person, no sources indicated for wife.
