Biography

Birth

Mary was born in 1837 in Deptford England. she was baptised at St Paul in Lewisham and she was the daughter of Morgan Morgans and Jane Wilson. ^[1]

Marriage

Robert married Mary Margaret Morgans in Victoria on the 5th of March 1860. ^[2] Information from the marriage certificate states that he was a 28 year old bachelor born in Sydney, New South Wales, and his profession appears to read as "stock keeper'. He states his father as Thomas Simpson - a squatter, and his mother as Jane Simpson maiden name unknown. Mary is a 22 year old spinster from Kent, and her fathers name reads as "Morgan Morgans", (a Tailor by profession) and her mothers name as Jane Wilson. The marriage is a Roman Catholic ceremony and is witnessed by John Morgans and Emma Frost.

Death

Mary died in1898 at the age of 60 in Bairnsdale. ^[3]

Obituary

Another very old resident passed away on Saturday, in the person. of Mrs Robert Simpson, of Lucknow. She was 60 years of-age, and came to Bairnsdale 40 years ago, Ihaving resided at Lucknow for 29 years. Mrs Simpson had been confined to her bed by rheumatism for the last 20 years, so that the record of her experience in the district must be a unique one. Notwithstanding the long period during which she Ihad been confined, she was of a oheerful temperament and .much respected by all who knew her.^[4]

SIMPSON.— On the 6th August, at Lucknow, near "Bairnsdale, Mary, the beloved wife of- Robert Simpson, aged 60years.^[5]
