Biography

  • John was born in 1819. He was the son of George Morgan and Ann Collins. All children of John Born “Llambeda “ O’Connell. A Colonial Brickmakers Family by Paul Goard - says John Age 10 was working with Thomas Talbot Of Cobbitty
  • Nsw Government Gazette 8th June 1869Impounded at O’Connell On 31st May 1869 by Mr John Morgan one chestnut gelding - If not released will be sold at this pound 17-6-1869 - Damages 2/- 6d.
  • NSW Government Gazette 24th November 1871. Impounded at O'Connell on 5th November 1871 by Mr John Morgan Sen. Sum due at date of notice.
  • Australia Town & Country 18-11-1876 - O’Connell - Fish River. A Sunday school picnic on 9th instant,at St Thomas’s church.when the service concluded the children marched the grounds of Mr John Morgan Sen. where they enjoyed themselves with various games.The creature comforts were resided over by Mrs Morgan. About 60 children & 50 adults were present.
  • Lithgow Mercury 23rd December 1898. We regret to announce the death of Mr John Morgan Sen. An old and respected resident who died early Saturday morning age 79.The deceased came to O'Connell and settled on the "Lambeda" Estate then belonging to the late Rev.Thomas Hassal in the fifties and remained there until his death. He lived an emplary life, always being ready to help those in distress and was highly esteemed for his probity in all dealings. He leaves a wife and grown up family.
  • History of St Thomas Church O'Connell, 1966 Centenary Soon after the opening of the church 26th January 1866. The Harris and Morgan families organised a big tea meeting, roasting bullocks in the paddock to raise funds to pay for the building. 1880 W Purdon & Thomas George Morgan were church wardens, Miss Durack was on parish council, Mr Harris sen. Was a trustee. The window on the right side is in memory of John Morgan born 1819.It depicts the Ascension. The Eclessiastical north wall is dedicated to Arthur & Emily Harris. Left of the Communion table memorial to Henry Harris. The centre window memory of William & Jane Purdon.
