Biography

Note: An earlier version of this profile was attached to Horace Jabez Morgan (1824-1906) as his paternal ancestor (father) solely on the basis of a caption found in Find A Grave: Memorial #98548704, which was corrupted (generations out of order, garbled parental and sibling attachments). That profile has recently been improved, hence the attachment of Wells Leroy Morgan as a son of Horace Jabez Morgan does appear to be valid. The identity of his mother probably was Ariann Wheeler (1831 -), the first wife of Horace J. Morgan ^[1].

Wells Leroy Morgan was recorded in household of the family of Horace J. Morgan in the 1855 New York State census, residing in Fabius, New York ^[2].

The 1860 U.S. census enumerated Wells Morgan (by then age 6) in Troy Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, apparently in household of his grandparents Samuel and Harriett Morgan ^[3]. By that juncture, Wells's mother probably had deceased.

In the 1870 U.S. census, Wells (age 17) had rejoined the household of his father, Horace Morgan, and his second wife, Adaline Bothwell (Alvord), who were in Catharine, Schuyler County, New York ^[4].

Marriage and census records illustrate that Wells Leroy Morgan married 1 Oct 1876, Isabelle (Crobar; 1851 - 1926) ^[5], and had started his own family in Tuscola, Michigan ^[6]. They remained in Vassar, Tuscola County, Michigan, thereafter ^[7],^[8],^[9].

Wells Leroy Morgan died 26 Dec 1921 at Vassar, Michigan. His grave is in Riverside Cemetery, Vassar, Tuscola County, Michigan, USA ^[10].
