Biography

About 1318, in a charter signed at Berwick-upon-Tweed, Sir Thomas de Morham, Knt., senior, sold his lands of Kymbrigham with all pertinents to Sir Alexander Steward [Stewart], Knt.[1] (It is probable this is Sir Alexander Stewart, Knt, of Bonkyl, in Berwickshire.)

Sir Thomas de Morham, Knt., patris - the father, conveyed to Euphemie de Morham, his daughter, and her spouse John Gifford, various estates on 10th May 1323 when he was still living.[2]

In the archives is an Exemplification by Hugh Gyffard, Lord of Yester, son and heir of late Euphemia Gyffard, Lady of Morham and Bara, who examined letters by the late Lord Thomas de Morham by which he granted to Holyrood Abbey the advowson on the church of Bara [Haddingtonshire] and all its appurtenances. These letters were confirmed by Euphemia, daughter of Thomas de Morham and widow of late John Gyffard, Hugh's mother. Hugh confirms everything, and warrantees the grant. Sealed with the seals of Hugh and of William de "Laundelys" [Laundels], Bishop of St Andrews on 2nd December 1345 at Bara. Witnesses: Alexander and William, Abbots of "Dunfermelyne" [Dunfermline, Fife] and "Neubotyl" [Newbattle]; [Patrick] Earl of March, Lord William "de Vallibus" [de Vaux]; Robert "Mautalent" [Maitland], and his brother John, and several others.[3].
