He enlisted at Victoria Barracks, Sydney, on the 5th of October, 1914, at the age of 19. At that time he was working as a driver. He was described in his military record as 5'9" in height, with fair complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, and no distinctive marks except for his vaccination scar. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
During WWI he served as a driver in the supply column, and ambulance.
He married Gladys Livermore at Petersham, NSW, in 1920.[2]
On the 31st of January, 1930 he re-enlisted in the Army Reserve. At that time he was working as an ambulance officer.[3]
He died in the Kogarah district on the 7th of July, 1968.[4][5] He was buried in the Woronora cemetery.[6]

On May 1, at the Congregational Church, Petersham, the wedding took place of Miss Gladys Livermore, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. A. Livermore, of "Studleigh" , Ashfield (late Concord), and Mr. Charles I. Morison (A.I.F.), eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Morison. ot Summer Hill. The Rev. W Kench was the officiatlng minister. The church was artistically decorated by friends of the bride, and the service was fully choral. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of ivory crepe de chene, daintily beaded, and she carried a shower bouquet. Her veil, which was worn with a wreath of orange blossoms, was of tulle worked with Honiton lace, and was lent by the bride's aunt. The bridesmaids were the Misses Florrie and Millie Livermore and Janet Morison, all of whom wore dainty frocks of crepe net with tulle sashes of mauve, blue, and pink respectively, with black hats. and they carried white bouquets. Mr. J. Riches was best man and Mr. S. McCulloch and Mr. W. E. Livermore were groomsmen, all having seen service abroad. The reception was held at Oakleigh Hall, Petersham, where about 80 guests were entertained. Mrs. Livermore received her guests in a frock of nigger brown mousseline de sol embroidered in steel beads, with hat to tone. Later Mr. and Mrs. Morison left for the South Coast, the bride's travelling dress being of sale blue crepe de chine, worn with a black hat.
