Biography

John was born in 1849. He was the son of John Morley and Christiana Bix. He passed away in 1930.[1]

Obit: "John Allen Morley, a former business man of this city passed away very peacefully, Sunday, September 14th after a long illness. He has been in ill health for the past seven years, and for the past two years he was confined to his bed. Mr. Morley was engaged in the laundry business for fifteen years, his son Robert was in partnership with him. In 1918 Mr. Morley retired and his son took over the business. Mr. Morley was born at Lancaster, Glengarry Co., Ontario, November 5, 1854 of English parents, who immigrated to this country in the year 1838. At the age of thirteen Mr. Morley prempted a farm in Muskoka district, Ontario, then in 1876 he came to Huron county and bought a farm in Sherman township, which was still in the wilderness He built a home on the quarter line as surveyors lines were not quite accurate. In 1886 he moved to Sand Beach. He married Miss Jennie Graham in 1880 and seven children were born to their union, all are still living in Michigan. The mother departed from life in 1900. In 1912 Mr. Morley again married, Mrs. Marie Attridge, who survives his death. Funeral services were held from the home at 1:00 Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. O.B. Ansted officiating. Burial was made in Rock Falls cemetery. Those left to mourn his death: his wife and three sons, Robert of this city; John and Frank of Royal Oak; four daughters, Mrs. George Fisher of Clawson; Mrs. Minnie Yager, Detroit; Mrs. D. Ballenger, Flint; and Mrs. Jay Snider of Lansing; also fourteen grandchildren. The people who attended the funeral from out of town, were: Orvel Caswell and Charles Mosher, I. Graham and Maude Graham of Deckerville; Mr. & Mrs. Leo Lamb, Mrs. Minnie Yager, of Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. James Woods and Mr. & Mrs. Sam Wilson of Helena; Mr. & Mrs John Morley and Mr. & Mrs. Frank Morley, of Royal Oak; Mr. & Mrs. George Fisher of Clawson; Mr. & Mrs. D. Ballenger, of Flint; and Mrs. Jay Snyder, of Lansing; Mr. & Mrs. William Crandell, Mrs. Marie Murphy and Mr. & Mrs. A.I. Gillies of Cass City; Mr. & Mrs. Ed O'Mara, of Sandusky, and Robert Morley of this city." [4] .
