Francis dedicated his life to the church.[3] He attended Oxford University (matriculating on 3 April 1674 aged 17) where he attained the following qualifications;[1]
Bachelor of Arts / Ordained Deacon: 15 June 1679
Master of Arts: 31 January 1681
Doctor of Divinity: 28 September 1691
He held the following appointments:
Rector, Meonstoke: 31 January 1681 - 14 July 1684
Curate, Meonstoke, Soberton Chapel: 26 September 1683 - 26 September 1683
Canon, Winchester Cathedral, Canonry of the 3rd prebend: 4 April 1684 - 20 June 1732
Rector, Bishop's Waltham: 14 July 1694 - 28 September 1691
His wife was Penelope[2] and the couple had three children we know of (also Refer research Notes):
Francis was buried on 4 October 1696 in Hampshire aged about 40. A monument is in Winchester Cathedral beside his great uncle's tomb. His great uncle was the Bishop of of Winchester, George Morley (1598-1684).[8][9]
"Francisci's" will passed probate on 14 October 1696.[2]
Research Notes
Records have been difficult to find. They are perhaps in the Bishop's Waltham Parish Registers which have not been digitised. Droxford was next door to BW and the BW Registers contain some Droxford records. This would be good to investigate further.
A birth/baptism record for Francis has not be found. His birth year is estimated to be 1657 based on his Oxford Alumni record.[1]
A marriage record for Francis and Penelope has not yet been found. They were probably married in about 1682 as their son George was born 1683. They were likely to have been married in Hampshire, England.
There was no son Francis mentioned in this Francis' Will in 1696 suggesting this child baptised in 1689 may either have died young.
The location of Francis' burial is not known at this point other than being in Hampshire - probably Bishop's Waltham, Hampshire, where was said to be 'of' in his Will.[2]
