Biography

Andrew Morley was christened June 28, 1808 in Pickering, York, England. ^[1] On future census reports: 1851, 1871, and 1891, he listed his specific birthplace as Raindale, Yorkshire. His parents are shown as Moses and Dorothy Morley. He married Elizabeth Ellis February 14, 1835 in Middleton By Pickering, York, England. ^[2]

In the 1841 census, Elizabeth was shown with three sons William (b. 1835) age 6, Moses (b. 1837) age 4 and David (b. 1839) age 1. Andrew was not shown in this census. The family was shown as living in Middleton, Yorkshire (Yorkshire North Riding), England.^[3] Sadly David died Oct/ Nov/ Dec, 1842 at age 3. ^[4] Andrew and Elizabeth had another child in 1848 and named him David Andrew. ^[5] David Andrew is shown as a two year old in the 1851 census. ^[6]

In the 1851 census, Andrew was shown back in the census again and his occupation was shown as a clock and watchmaker. ^[7] The family was also shown as still living in Pickering, Yorkshire (North Riding), England. The name of the riding seems to keep changing slightly but it appears they still live in the same location.

In the 1861 census, Andrew (52) and Elizabeth (51) were still living in Yorkshire (north Riding), but it was labeled once again as Cropton. More specific information showed that they lived on White Thorn Street. Their children William (25) and David Andrew (12) were living with them. It is believed that Moses married and moved out. ^[8]

The 1871 census showed Andrew (60) and Elizabeth (60) still living in Cropton with their son William (35) and his wife Mary Jane (38) living with them. William is shown as following in his father's footsteps as a watch maker. The 1881 census shows similar information only that Andrew is shown as 74, Elizabeth 70, William as 45 and Mary Jane as 47. There seems to be some discrepancy with Andrew's age from one census to the next.

In 1891 Andrew is shown as being an 84 year old widower living on his own means in Cropton, Middleton, Yorkshire (North Riding), England. ^[9] Andrew died in 1893 in Pickering, Yorkshire (likely Cropton), in 1893. ^[10]
