Elmira Star-Gazette, 5 Aug 1937, p1: Dr Rex Morrell drowned; young Elmira physician boating accident victim" Drowned shortly before midnight Wednesday (4 Aug) in Lake Keuka near Urbana. A rowboat in which he and his brother Herbert V Morrell were fishing was swamped by a passing speedboat. Identity of speedboat driver has not been learned. Dr Morrell's body was not recovered by early Thursday afternoon. (Extensive details of accident follow.) Dr and Mrs Morrell were vacationing at a cottage at Urbana Landing. He lived at 1553 West Church Street, 32 years old. Highly regarded in professional and social circles in Elmira. Graduated from University of Buffalo medical 1927. Son of m/m Frank Morrell of Jackson Summit PA, where he was born 28 Nov 1904. His wife is former Marjorie Wager. He leaves a son, John, 3yo. His only brother was Herbert, who survived the accident.

Tri County Clippings- Page One Hundred Twenty Four The Merrill Scrapbook DECEMBER 12, 1922 HOLD RITES MONDAY FOR DR. MORRELL Funeral services will be conducted Monday for Dr. Rex J. Morrell, victim of Wednesday night’s boat tragedy on Lake Keuka. Services will be held at the home of George A. Wager, 610 Franklin St. at 4 p.m. Mr. Wager is the father of Mrs. Morrell. The body will be at the Smith & Fudge Funeral Home, 360 West Water St., until Monday morning when it will be taken to the Wager home. The Rev. W. Hamilton Benham, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will conduct the funeral rites. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
