Cornelius (Connor/Conor) Morris was born about 1835 given that he was christened in Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland on 21 February that year[1]. He was the son of Thomas Morris/Morrissy and Honorah Calanan.
In 1857, he married at Carrabane, Galway, Ellen, daughter of Martin Cahalan and Winifred Kelly[2].
Conor migrated to Victoria, Australia on the White Star, arriving on September 1863[3], leaving his family behind. They followed two years later, no doubt after Conor had saved for their fare[4]. Although previously mining in Malmsbury, Victoria, in 1870, Conor applied for and was granted an allotment of Crown land in the town to farm. The land was at the end of what was to become Orr Street and bordered the Coliban River[5].
Conor passed away in 1889 and on 10 March, he was laid to rest in Malmsbury Cemetery[6].
