James Morris was born on 11 Feb 1818 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia as the first child of James Morris and Maria Wheeler. He had thirteen siblings, namely: Thomas, Elizabeth Jane, Henry Harris, Maria Anne, Harriet Adeline, William Joseph, Louisa Hannah, John, Daniel, Charles, George Andrew, Richard Albert, and Sara. He died on 24 Jul 1870[1] in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. When he was 19, he married Mary Ann Cooley,daughter of Samuel Cooley and Elizabeth, on 28 Aug 1837[2] in Liverpool, New South Wales, Australia.
