William Morris was born in about 1837 in Bradwell, Buckinghamshire. He was the son of William and Sophia Morris.
By June 6th 1841, William's family were still living in Bradwell. There were four children - William (4), Sophia (3), Thomas (2) and Harry (1). A Lucy Viles was also in the household.
By March 30th 1851, they were living in Mill Lane, Olney, Buckinghamshire. William was an iron monger's apprentice. Thomas wasn't in the household, and five more younger brothers and sisters had been born; they had a sixteen-year-old servant, Hannah Rainbow. William's father was a relieving officer.
William married Sarah Ann Jones in 1858 in Camberwell district.
Their daughter Sophia Morris was born on 2 Feb 1859 in Deptford, Kent. She was christened on 8 June 1860 at St Paul's in Deptford. The family's address was given as 11 Reginald Place, and her father's occupation as ironmonger.
By April 7th 1861, William and Sarah were living in Brentford High Street, Middlesex. William was working as an iron monger and grocer. One-month-old twin daughters Charlotte and Elizabeth had been born, in Paddington. They had a visitor, Elizabeth? Butcher, and a servant, Hannah? Whitehead?. Meanwhile their daughter Sophia was staying with her maternal grandmother for a visit.
