Biography

Gertrude was born in Calbourne (Isle of Wight) Hampshire about 1883. She is the daughter of George Morris and Agnes Eliza Miller. We are unable to locate a verifiable birth/christening record, so this information comes from census data.

As a young lady, Gertrude worked as a dressmaker as shown in the 1901 census.

In August 1909, Gertrude married Harold Brixton with whom she would have two sons who were born in 1910 and 1917.

Gertrude passed away in Poole, Dorset in 1939 at about age 56.

Research Notes

Sometime between the 1901 census and her marriage in 1909, Gertrude's immediate family started using Morris-George as their surname. We do not know what prompted the change.

By way of note, in 1940, a year or so after Gertrude's death, Harold Brixton would marry the widow of Gertrude's brother, Albert J. Morris-George.
