Biography

1776 Project
George Morris served with 3rd Battalion, Washington County Militia, Pennsylvania Militia during the American Revolution.

Capt. George Morris was born on 2 Jan 1745 in Burlington, New Jersey to parents Joseph Morris and Hanna Asson. He married Margaret Corbly on 19 Dec 1774 in Garards Fort, Greene, Pennsylvania. Children: Amelia Permelia, John, Hannah, Jonathan, Levi, Isaiah, George Jr., Rachel, Huston, Priscilla, Margaret. He died on 20 Jan 1842 in Garards Fort, Greene, Pennsylvania at age 97.

His gravestone reads: "To the Memory of George Morris Snr., born 2nd Jany 1745. Departed this life 20th Jany 1842 aged 97 years 18 days. Death thou hast conquard me, and by thy dart am slain. But Jesus Christ will conquer the, And I will rise a gain."

George served as a private in the 3rd Pennsylvania Regiment, Washington County, 1778. His name is on the Green Township Veterans Memorial.

Research notes

A Mount Morris history website claims George was the nephew of Robert Morris Jr., signed of the Declaration of Independence, but that does not accord with this tree.[1]
