John Morris was born about 1600[1] in either Carmarthenshire, Wales[2] or Somersetshire, England.[3] His parents are at this time unconfirmed.
According to Martha McCartney, John Morris was a draper from Somersetshire, England, who came to Virginia in 1619 on the Bona Nova.[4] He is included on both the List of the Living in Virginia as of 16 February 1623/4 and the Muster taken at Elizabeth Cittie taken 7 February 1624/5.[1]

In October 1628 the General Court noted that John Morris was indebted to merchant George Downes. Capt. William Tucker, Morris's employer, was told to pay the debt after recovering the funds from Morris's attorney.[3]
No confirmed record has been found for this John Morris after 1628; no record of marriage, birth of children or death.
