Biography

  • Nicholas Morrish was born about 1822 in England. He was the son of Thomas and Sarah Morrish. He might be the Nicholas Morrish who was living at Bradworthy, Devon in the 1841 England census[1].
  • Nicholas emigrated to Canada, possibly with his parents, or possibly after they emigrated. He lived at Colborne, Huron, Ontario, Canada. He was a farmer and also operated a Sawmill.
  • Nicholas married Charlotte Vanstone about 1845 (no record has been found). Nicholas and Charlotte had four children: John Morrish (b. 1846), Elizabeth Ann Morrish (b. 1848), Thomas Morrish (b. 1853), William Morrish (b. 1856).
  • Nicholas' parents were living at Colborne in the 1851 Canada census but Nicholas is not found in that census. He might have been living in Michigan, United States in the 1850s.
  • Nicholas' wife Charlotte died in 1856.
  • Nicholas married Mary Jewell on 22 Nov 1859 at Colborne, Huron, Ontario, Canada[2]. Nicholas and Mary had at least ten children.
  • In the 1861 Canada census Nicholas was age 39 living at Colborne, Huron, Ontario with his wife Mary Morrish (20), sons John Morrish (15), Thomas Morrish (9), William Morrish (6), Henry Morrish (1), daughter Elizabeth Ann Morrish (13)[3][4].
  • In the 1871 Canada census Nicholas was age 48 living at Colborne, Huron, Ontario with his wife Mary Morrish (30), sons Thomas Morrish (18), William Morrish (16), Richard Morrish (10), Nicholas Morrish (8), Henry Morrish (1), daughters Charlote Morrish (5), Mary Morrish (3), father Thomas Morrish (75), possibly sister Mary Ann Morrish (23)[5][6].
  • In the 1881 Canada census Nicholas was age 58 living at Colborne, Huron, Ontario with his wife Mary Morrish (40), sons Nicholas Morrish (18), Henry Morrish (11), James Morrish (8), Arthur Morrish (3), Albert Morrish (0), daughters Charlote Morrish (15), Mary Morrish (13), Caroline Morrish (5)[7][8].
  • In the 1891 Canada census, Nicholas was age 68 living at Colborne, Huron, Ontario with his wife Mary Morrish (50), sons Henry Morrish (21), Arthur Morrish (13), Chester Morrish (10), Marhsall Morrish (4), daughters Mary Jane Morrish (23), Caroline Morrish (15), Ada Morrish (7)[9][10].
  • Nicholas died in 1892 age 70 at Colborne[11].
