Joseph-Moise "Moses" Morrison (né Morisseau) was born on 28 March 1821 in Beloeil, Lower Canada to farmer Louis Marie Morisseau and Marie Josette Couillard. He was baptized on the next day at St. Mathieu de Beloeil.
He began living with Luce Beauregard on 16 September 1845, and ultimately married her officially on 26 December 1847 at Notre-Dame-de-Granby. Together they had ten children in total, with eight living to adulthood. He worked as a farmer, and they lived in a single-storied, single-family log house.
The family immigrated to Illinois in the United States in 1864, first going to Ridott, Stephenson County. They then moved to Pecatonica Township, Winnebago County without their son William, who stayed in Ridott on the farm of William Hale. After Luce passed away, Moses moved the family to Pocahontas County, Iowa, where he ultimately settled in Varina.
Moses passed away on 26 May 1903 at the home of his son in Varina, and was buried next to his wife in Pecatonia Cemetery.
