Biography

James was born on the 14 March 1805 in the Hamlet of Middlefoodie, near the Village of Dairsie (aka Osnaburgh), which is 3 miles (4.8 km) east-northeast of the Town of Cupar, in Dairsie Parish, Fife, Scotland. He is the son of Weaver, William (Morrison) and Jean (Ewan), who married on the 18 January 1801 in the Parish Church, in the City of Aberdeen, Parish of Aberdeen, in Aberdeenshire, Scotland[1].

Baptism

His baptism takes place on the 17 March 1805 at the Parish Church of Saint Mary, located around 1.2 kilometres (0.75 mi) south of the Village of Dairsie (aka Osnaburgh), 3 miles (4.8 km) east-northeast of the Town of Cupar, in Dairsie Parish, Fife, Scotland[2].

Marriage

Katharine (Finlay) marries James (Morrison) on the 22 September 1826 at the Parish Church, The Square, in the Village of Falkland, Falkland Parish, Fife, Scotland[3].

Transportation Details

  • James Morrison (d 1841): weaver in Falkland, aged 30/32 in 1838; left Falkland in Nov 1837, intending to settle in Errol where he had a house; was to be tried at PCC for theft of watch, watch rings, watch keys, and watch ribbon from house in Errol, aggravated by pc at CSC 7 July 1837, but broke out of prison; tried at PCC April 1838; 7 years transportation; left a wife and 4 children behind (AD14/38/86; JC26/1838/78 and JC26/1838/65); imprisoned awaiting transportation; died in RN Hospital, 25 March 1841 (HO8/67)[4].

Death

James (Morrison) passes away on the 25 March 1841 at the Royal Naval Hospital where he was imprisoned, awaiting Transportation. He was around 32 years old at the time and the cause of death isn't recorded.
