Biography

Catherine was born about 1816 in Torrisdale, Parish of Tongue She was the daughter of William Morrison 35 and Jane MacKay 21.

She was the 2nd of 7 siblings:

  1. Hugh Morrison (died in 1836)
  2. Catherine Morrison Married In 1838 at Torrisdale to William MacKay (Caiseley) and had 4 children including Henny b 1842 and John b 1844 Torrisdale
  3. Johan married James MacKay and went to Canada
  4. Mary Morrison (b 16 Feb 1820) [3] Married George MacKay of Clahbuie Tubeg and had 4 daughters
  5. Williamina Morrison (b1823) who is listed living with her parents in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census records mother of
  6. ames Morrison (b1823) mason in Torrisdale married Helen Morrison and built Croft house still standing at Torrisdale.
  7. William Morrison (b1827)

She married William Mackay on 28 December 1838 at Torrisdale.

They had seven children in 17 years.

William McKay, age 37, is recorded in the 1851 Census in Tongue, Sutherland.[1][2]

William McKay, age 47, is recorded in the 1861 Census in Tongue, Sutherland.[3]

William McKay, age 55, is recorded in the 1871 census in Tongue, Sutherland.[4]

William McKay, age 76, is recorded in the 1891 census in Tongue, Sutherland. [5]

Catherine passed away from old age at arid Torrisdale in the parish of Tongue Sutherland on 23 Jan 1898.[6] Her death was reported by her nephew William Morrison of Borgie

According to the death report she was survived by her husband William.
