Name spelled "Frederick" or "Fredrick" according to different sources, but "Fredrick" is the spelling used by the family on his obituary.
At the age of two, Fred moved to Bradshaw, York, Nebraska with his parents. There he worked on his father's farm and attended the Bradshaw school. He earned his first money herding cattle for ten cents a day. With his earnings he bought a pig.
In 1900 Fred moved to Custer county, Nebraska and purchased 400 acres of land, besides filing homestead entry on an adjoining tract of 160 acres. About 1903 he entered into a farming partnership with his brother Lee and they raised purebred Shorthorn cattle and Angora goats. This partnership was short-lived.
Then Fred bought a farm north of Callaway in the Fairview neighborhood. There he married Lulu Hough. They had three sons: Ralph, George, and Roy. A girl (Mrs. Frank Cox) was also raised in his home from childhood.
Fred was a member of the Christian Church in Bradshaw, Nebraska and transferred his membership on 2 Nov. 1924 to the Callaway Evangelical Church.
