Note: !BIRTH: 1880 Census shows his birthplace as Illinois.
Born about 1870 (probably in Dixon, Lee, Illinois), Alfred was only a few months old when his parents moved to Nebraska; there he grew to manhood.
It was the custom for a "seventh" son to become a doctor so Alfred was often called "Doc" by family. However, it was his younger brother, George Andrew (the ninth son), who did become a medical doctor.
Following glowing reports received from his brother, Fred, who had moved to Custer county, Alfred and his wife, Allie, moved to Callaway, Custer, Nebraska in 1902 and went into the hardware and funiture business with his brother, Lee.
Eight months later they sold the business and moved back to Bradshaw, York, Nebraska where Alfred resumed running a threshing machine (just as he had done before moving to Callaway).
He and his wife were parents to three children: Marjorie, Maxine and Edmond.
NOTE: According to the history written by his younger brother, George, Alfred's middle name was Edmund. Check on this.
