Research Notes

Her memorial at Find A Grave gives an exact birthdate (although the gravestone has only her death date and "aged 73 years"), and gives her maiden name as Johnston and marriage location as New York.

Is there documentation for any of these?

Johnston-22149 and Morrison-3637 appear to represent the same person because: Johnston-22149 was created by mistake.
This profile was created by mistake. James Morrison had only one wife, Jennet or Jennett, whose name is thought to have been Morrison also. They had two sons named James, one born January 26, 1758 who died on January 6, 1777. The second James (James M.) was born a week later, on January 15, 1777. He married Margaret Johnston, and lived until 1824.

We need to merge Johnston-22149 into Morrison-3637. I am setting up this merge now, but it will need to be approved,

Re Johnston vs. Morrison, see my comment below, the bottom one on this page. If there's documentation, I will be happy to change it, but the old family trees for the Cabarrus Co. family say that her surname was Morrison and that she was his cousin. Proof one way or the other would be most welcome.
Shouldn't her LNAB be Johnston? All six sources I've found on FamilySearch list that as her last name.

Thank you for completing the merge. What is the evidence for the exact birth date?
I've approved the merge on the Morrison-3637 page. Unless you have documentation to the contrary, please keep the spelling Jennet, and preserve the notes from Morrison-3637. Also, correct spelling is Cabarrus County NC.
Morrison-3637 and Morrison-5371 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicates- please merge
What is the evidence that her name was Johnston? The page on Find A Grave (Find A Grave Memorial# 17210825) says that she was born in Campbeltown, Mecklenburg Co. NC, which is clearly incorrect. There were very few European settlers in this part of NC before 1740, and Mecklenburg County wasn't formed until 1762, from Anson County. Jennet was almost certainly born in Scotland. Since we don't know who her parents were, we can't say for sure that it was in Campbeltown, Kintyre (which is where her husband was from), but since Morrison genealogies (or at least tradition) says that they were related, this seems likely. I would be grateful for more information on who her parents were, but the Find A Grave memorial at present doesn't provide enough evidence to warrant changing the name here.
According to Find A Grave, her LNAB is "Johnston".
