Charles was born in 1898. He is the son of William Morrison and Janet Dinsey and grew up at the family farm at Abbottford, Tumbulgum, NSW.
He enlisted in the AIF as a private (no. 3845) on 8 May 1916 claiming to be 21 years and 8 months of age. In reality he was 17, but this avoided the requirement for his parents to approve his enlistment. He initially gave his next of kin as his aunt, Mrs Dyce of Petersham. He enlisted at Sydney, and began training at Liverpool, but completed it at Kiama NSW. At time of enlistment he was 5 ft 9 & 1/4 in tall with blue eyes, light hair and a light complexion. His occupation prior to enlisting was farm hand. He sailed for England on 10 Aug 1916 on the "Anchises". He proceeded to France on the "Princess Victoria" from Folkstone on 5 Dec 1916 and was taken on strength by 30th Bn on 8 Feb 1917. On 16 Feb 1917 he suffered frostbite on his toes and was evacuated to Rouen and then to Oxford before returning to France and joining the 45th Bn on 23 Jun 1917. He was killed in action by a artillery round on 13 Oct 1917 and it does not appear that his body was recovered.
His name is recorded at the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
