Mrs. Barbara J. Adkins, 55, of Newton, Kan., and formerly of Wanatah, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at her home. She was born Feb. 3, 1949, in Chester, Pa., to Francis S. and Ruby (Roadenbaugh) Morrison. Mrs. Adkins had worked as a patient accounting representative at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, San Diego. She had been church secretary at Salem United Church of Christ, Wanatah, for five years. She enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds, and had dedicated much time to genealogical research. On April 27, 1980, in Las Vegas, she married Stephen Adkins, who survives. Also surviving are her mother of Newton and one son, Lt. Paul M. Polyniak, stationed overseas. She was preceded in death by her father. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, with Rev. Karen Andrews officiating. There will be no visitation.
