Disambiguation

Some sources state that Hannah married Joseph Newman. This was actually Hannah (Morse) Newman (abt.1642-abt.1680), the daughter of Anthony Morse (as confirmed by his reference to her as Hannah Newman in his will).

Biography

Hannah was the daughter of Joseph Morse Dorothy Unknown.[1]

She is called Hannah in the will of her father. 16 Jan 1613 in London, Middlesex, England[citation needed]

"His will was drawn:-- "The foure and twentieth day of ye Second month Anno; Dom; 1646. I Joseph Morse of Ipswich, in New England planter, do make and ordayne this my last will and testament, revoking all other former wills by me made. Item; I give unto Dorothy my loving wife my house and lott & out houses bought of Thomas Dorman, alsoe my house and lott of about six acres bought of the widdow Perkins, one cow & and alsoe the wholl bedd & bedding that I lye upon, standing in the hall. Item; I give to my Sonne Joseph Morse my best cloake. Item I give to my daughter Hannah my great bible which I use. Item; I give to my wife, Doctor Prestons works & Mr. Dykes besides her owne bibles the greater and the other smaller and one felling axe and one broad howe. Item; I give unto my Sonne John Morse my other house and out housing with the lott containing about two acres. I alsoe give to my Sonne John Morse a lott of six acres butting upon an end of ye fore named lotts of two acres towards ye north west & to my Sonne John Morse my lott of ten acres near Egypt river & to my Sonne John one yearling heiffer. Item; I give to John Morse, all my apparrell ungiven & one yeard of musk coloured broadcloth. Item; I give to John Morse, the bed and all ye bedding he lyeth on standing in the parlour & one paire of sheets & a pillow beere. Item; I give all my tools ungiven to my Sonne John Morse. Item; I give to my Sonne John Morse my barne with the ground thereto belonging I bought of Francis Jordan. Item; I give to my Sonne John Morse all my marsh, containing about five acres, only allowing unto my wife the one halfe of the grass growing upon it from yeare to yeare during her life; my will alsoe is that John shall have halfe the grasse from yeare to yeare that may be mowen upon the lott given to my wife, only providing that this shall not hinder her either from selling or breaking it up; alsoe my will is likewise that the cropp that shall arise of all my ground planted or sowen this yeare shall be equally divided betweene my wife & my Sonne John, the charges of the same be equally borne by them. Item; to my wife the first payment for the keeping of the herd. Item; I give to my Sonne John the last payment for the herd keeping. I appoint Dorothy my wife to be sole executrix to this my last will, and in witness that this is my deed I have hereunto sett my hand & seale in the presence of these witnesses hereunder written "JOSEPH MORSE "Witnesses ROGER LANCKTON (his marke) WILLIAM GUDDERSON JAMES CHUTE "Proven this Court held at Ipswich 29, 7, 1646. "The inventory was taken 28, 7, 1646, and amounted to £83.01.10." This will gives all that is known of the personal history of the ancestor of this line of Morses. His name is here written Morse plainly. The death of his wife Dorothy is not on record.
