Biography

Silas Morse was born August 26, 1767, the son of Abner and Anna Church Morse of Annapolis, Nova Scotia[1]

On 25 Jul 1791 he married Helen Grant, (b. 2 May 1770, New York, NY the daughter of Captain Grant)[2], and had children, including:

  1. Robert Grant, b. 1794, d. Abt 1820, East Indies
  2. William Haliburton, b. 18 Jun 1796[3], who married Catherine Troop[4] and had 7 children, and who died in 1872

Helen died August 6, 1801, in Bridgetown, Annapolis Co., N.S[5] and is buried in the Morse Cemetery, West Paradise, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia

On 14 Jan 1803, Silas married Second Elizabeth (Osborn) Chipman[6], widow of John H. Chipman, and had children, including:

  1. Silas Livingstone Q.C., born 1804, Bridgetown, Annapolis Co., N.S. d. 17 Jan 1871[7]
  2. John Osborn, born 10 Oct 1806[8]; who married Rhoda Parker and Harriet Stevens, and who died 10 Apr 1880, Grafton, Kings Co., N.S.
  3. Helen Grant, b. 7 May 1808[9], d. 4 Sep 1876[10]
  4. Sarah Alice, b. 25 Sep 1812[11] and who died 26 Dec 1863, Bridgetown
  5. Charles, b. 27 Jun 1814, Bridgetown[12], who married Margaret Henderson, and who died 3 Nov 1870, Liverpool, Queens Co., N.S.
  6. Elizabeth, b. 9 Jul 1816[13]., who married James Smith in Windsor, NS and who died 30 Jun 1891, Saint John, N.B.
  7. Thomas Ansley, b. 23 Jan 1820, Bridgetown, Annapolis Co., N.S. who married Margueretta Maria Oxley, daughter of George Oxley, and who 27 Jan 1895, in Everett, MA

Elizabeth died 10 Aug 1826, in Bridgetown.

In 1831, Silas married Sarah (Bishop) Chipman, the widow of Daniel Chipman[14]

He died 30 Apr 1849 in Bridgetown, and is buried in the Morse Cemetery, West Paradise, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia[15]

I will reserch Silias more, i may have just put the dates backwards. Sorry about that
The dates for Silas don't match up. He can't have married Sarah Bishop in 1827 if he died in 1797
