Biography

Eliza was born in 1854. Her birth was registered in Monmouth, the district covering the Forest of Dean. [1] Her family lived in Yorkley.

In 1861 [2] and 1871 [3] she was living with her parents Isaac and Elizabeth. Isaac was a Haulier and a Farmer.

On 20 Sep 1881 she married Richard Hatton at St Pauls Church in Parkend. Richard was a miner. [4]

In 1891 Eliza and Richard (known as Frank) lived with their 4 children, Minnie, Bessie, Stanley and Albert in Yorkley and Frank was a Coal Miner. [5]

Frank died on 17 July 1899 and left effects of £494. [6] and in 1901 Eliza was living in Yorkley with her 8 children aged between 17 and 4. [7] In 1911 Elizabeth and 6 children lived in 'Sunny Side', Yorkley. All her sons were now working. Eliza confirmed she had been married for 10 years and had 9 children but 1 had died. The house had 6 rooms. [8]

In February 15th 1916 her son Frank, aged 19 enlisted in the Royal Horse Artillery and listed Elizabeth as next of Kin at their house Sunnyside in Yorkley. He was discharged as physically unfit in March 1917. [9]

Eliza died on 26 March 1923 aged 68. [10] She left effects of £974 and her son Albert Hatton (retired Crown employee) and son in law James Jones, Colliery deputy administered her will. [11] She had been widowed for 34 years.
