Biography

Elton John Thomas Morse was born in 1889 in Bream Gloucestershire to parents Thomas and Mary. ^[1]

In 1891 Elton was a baby living with his parents Thomas and Mary in Breams Eaves. Thomas was a Collier. ^[2]

In 1901 Elton was living with his family, now one of 4 children were living in Parkend. ^[3]

In 1911 the family were back in Breams Eaves. They moved there between 1905 and 1907. Thomas has moved away from the Coal face and is a Carter, working outside for the Coal company. His eldest son, Elton, is a Coal Hewer. The next eldest son, Howard aged 14 is a Carter for a building company. Thomas and Mary have been married for 21 years, they've had 7 children and 1 has died before 1911. ^[4]

In 1916 Elton married Minnie Pearce. ^[5]The family lived in Whitecroft. ^[6] The couple had at least 3 children, Elton b. 12 Feb 1917 (a Colliery Pumpman), Florence b. 26 MAY 1926 (later Florence Thomas) and John D Morse b. 22 July 1933. In 1939 these 5 lived in Park Hill, Whitecroft and Elton was a Colliery Labourer. ^[7]

Elton died the year after the 1939 Register, in 1940. He was 51. ^[8]

Research NoteBetween 1916 when the couple married and 1939 when the Register was published there were 6 children with the surname Morse whose mother's surname was Pearce. In theory these all could be the children of Elton and Minnie. The other children cannot be found in the search to date.
