Biography

Nathaniel was born in 1750 and died in 1835.[1]

Nathaniel Frye/Fry Morse was the son of Moody & Hannah (Carleton) Morse.[2]

He was married twice: Hannah Gibbs with whom he had Elizabeth, Sylvester & Vandelinda. After Hannah's death he married Rebecca Putnam.

Dr. Nathaniel Fry Morse was a physician in Sutton, Massachusetts where he was much respected and had a considerable practice.[3]

Military

Nathaniel Fry Morss served as private in the company of Capt. Caleb, Whiting, regiment of Col. Benjamin Hawe’s on an expedition to Rhode Island. He was credited with one month, fifteen days of service from 30 July to 12 September 1778.[4] He is also reported as being a surgeon under Gen. Washington.[5]

Probate

In his will written 11 May 1832 (probate 5 May 1835), Nathaniel F. Morse bequeathed to his son John Scott’s family bible on condition that he buy his sister Polly a mourning suit (if she should be living). John also receives the one hundred dollar note that Nathaniel holds against him and fifty dollars in cash. Daughter Lucy receives two hundred dollars for her comfortable maintenance to be put in the hands of a suitable person. The heirs of daughter Elizabeth King receive two hundred and thirty dollars and bed and bedding, but Elizabeth is to have use of the property for her comfortable support before it goes to her heirs. Heirs of son Sylvester receive sixty dollars and Abigail Morse receives five dollars. The heirs of daughter Vandalinda receive one hundred and fifty dollars, again Vandalinda having use of the property for her support. If son-in-law Hutchinson “gets rid of his old embarrassments meaning his old debts,” then the sum shall go to Vandalinda to dispose of as she thinks proper. Daughter Polley Morse receives bed and bedding. Granddaughter Eliza King receives a bureau and six chairs. Grandson Nathaniel G. King receives one hundred and twenty-five dollars. Son John was named executor. Real estate was one-half of a pew valued at $37.50 and total estate was $159.42 which included $26.06 in medicines.[6]
