Biography

Matilda was born in 1839. She is the daughter of Henry Morse and Sarah Davis. She was baptised on February 9th 1840. Her father was a School Master. [1]

Matilda's mother Sarah died in 1840 and in 1841 she is the youngest of 6 siblings living with her father Henry in Blakeney. [2]

In 1851 she was living with her uncle and aunt, Thomas and Mary Ann Jones in Pillowell. Thomas was a Blacksmith. [3] In 1861 she was living with her married sister Phoebe in Coventry. She was a Silk Ribbon Weaver. [4]

On 24 Dec 1862 Matilda married Thomas Truelove at Coventry. Thomas was a watchmaker. She was 22 and he was 21. [5]

In 1871 Thomas and Matilda had 2 young children and lived in Coventry. Thomas was a Watch Jeweller. [6]

By 1880 the family, now with 5 children were living in Walton, Massachusetts. Thomas and daughter Jenny (perhaps Mary Jane, Janey? ) were working in a watch factory. [7] The 1900 census shows us that the family arrived in the USA in 1872, they'd had 8 children, 2 of whom had died. Daughter Jennie (now Jennie Burgess) had married and was widowed. She lived there with her daughter and son. Thomas was listed as a watch Jeweller. [8] In 1920 Thomas, a watch maker in a watch factory and Matilda were 79 and 80. 2 daughters lived with them, Minnie and Amy, Amy had been to college and was a stenographer. [9]

Matilda died on 20 June 1933 and is buried in Mount Feake Cemetary, Waltham, Massachusetts. [10]

Other members of Matilda's family ended up in Wlatham, Massachusetts. Her niece Ann moved there in 1880 and he sister Phoebe (Morse) Iliffe moved with her son William in 1899.
