He married Elizabeth Sowden on 31 October 1825 [2] in St Peters, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. They had five children together.

In 1851 [3] Joseph lived with his wife Elizabeth and their children Ruth, Ann and Daniel. They resided in Moor Side, Farnley, Leeds, Yorkshire - West Riding, England, United Kingdom. Joseph worked as a Cloth Weaver at that time.

In 1871 [4] Joseph lived in Moor Side, Low, Leeds, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom with his wife Elizabeth, their daughter Ruth and their grand daughter Ann. He worked as a woolen weaver at that time.

He died on 17 September 1884 in Wetherby, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom and was buried in Farnley Cemetery [5].
