Biography

The spelling of Dorothy's last name as "Mortimore" is from the Thornbury, Gloucestershire parish records published by Stott in 1998 in The American Genealogist. The "e" at the end is also visible in the free ancestry.com baptismal image linked below.

Dorothy was baptized 29 Jan 1603/4 as daughter of William Mortimore. Unusually, in this section this parish register did NOT begin the New Year after Lady's Day; it began 1604 on January 1 1604 as is clearly visible from the linked parish register image here despite some sources citing a more usual 1604/05 date.[1] Her mother was Dorothy Unknown, first wife of William Mortimor(e).

5 Apr 1624 she married Richard Thayer (jr) at Thornbury, Gloucestershire, England[2][3]

On 17 Jan 1640/41 Dorothy (Mortimore) Thayer was buried at Thornbury, Gloucestershire, England.[4][5]

Hello,

It is not made clear in the biography narrative why the profile is project protected. If she was not a PGM era migrant perhaps project protection can be lifted?

David, your earlier comment was correct, Dorothy was the child of William's first (Dorothy Unknown) wife. I have removed her as a child of William's second wife Margaret.

Dorothy Mortimore Thayer died and was buried in England before the rest of the family came to New England in 1641.

Does anyone have a valid source that shows she was in Braintree in 1641 when she died? I added the source I found (there are also others) that show she died and was buried in England. The Ancestry "source" that had been used to support her vitals is not available.

I checked the Braintree records on AmericanAncestors.org for 1640-1641 for all deaths. There were no records to support anyone of that name. There is no probate record in the Suffolk County, Mass., index. (Braintree was Suffolk in the 1600s.)

The last child's birth is also suspicious.

Cornelius was actually the son of a Robert Thayer/Tayer, not Richard. The parish register is pretty legible, free image from ancestry.com here https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/25133501?h=3de26a I don't know who Robert was, but he wasn't Richard. I'll detach and make a note on Cornelius.

Now I wonder if the parish register was written incorrectly, I see no other records of a "Robert" Thayer in Thornbury reading Stott and other sources. Cornelius could well have been the son of Richard & Dorothy, if he was born Dec 1640 and Dorothy died a month later in Jan 1641, that's plausible enough.

Strike all this, the probate of Cornelius shows that Richard & Zachariah were his brothers.

Hello,

Please can she be detached from Groome-72 who is not her mother - William and Margaret married in 1623.

FindAGrave profile referenced states that Dorothy died in England, shortly after the birth of her last child, and her husband Richard went to Mass. afterward.
