Biography

Lucinda Morton was born c. 26 Feb 1833 in Mexico, Oswego, New York. She was the daughter of Gad Morton, Jr. and Betsey Wing. It is quite likely that Lucinda was born in the hamlet of Texas, where her father had purchased a small farm on County Route 16 in 1828.

Lucinda's father was one of the earliest permanent settlers in the Town of Mexico; having moved to the area with his parents c. 1808 when the area was little more than a vast wilderness.

Lucinda married Anson Deming King c. 1832, and together they raised 7 children to adulthood.

Children

George Riley (Nov 1858 New Haven, NY - 20 Aug 1943 Minneapolis MN)
Julia Antoinette (16 Nov 1862 New Haven, NY - 25 Mar 1940 Oswego, NY)
Adelbert Millard (c.1866 New Haven, NY - c.1896)
Millicent Estella (7 Apr 1869 New Haven, NY - 23 Jul 1923 Henderson, NY)

Lucinda passed away on 18 Aug 1888 from complications of tuberculosis. She was only 55 years old. Although Find A Grave specifies that she was 55 years, 5 months and 23 days old when she passed away,[1] her date of death is off by four days on this website. So, it cannot be certain that her age was reported precisely. Census records consistently indicate that Lucinda was born c. 1833.

Obituary Mrs. Deming King, died Saturday morning, Aug. 18, of consumption. Her maiden name was Lucinda Morton, second daughter of the late Gad Morton of this town. Deceased was past the meridian of life. She was patient and uncomplaining during her long and tedious sickness. She was a Christian and possessed very many excellent qualities. As a wife, mother, neighbor and friend, her equals were few. We believe that her poor tired soul has gone to that land that is fairer than this. The Mexico Independent, 22 Aug 1888, transcribed by Ave Maria Norway
