Biography

Nathaniel Morton was born in 1730 in Massachusetts Bay Colony. His parents were Nathaniel Morton and Mariah Clarke.[1]

He first married Rebecca Jackson on 13 November 1753 in Plymouth.[2]

Together they had the following children

  1. Rebecca Morton
  2. Nathaniel Morton
  3. Meriah Morton
  4. Betty Morton

He married his second wife, Joanna Delano on 10 December 1774 in Plymouth.

Nathaniel died on 13 August 1781 in Plymouth.

Probate

The will of Nathaniel Morton of Plymouth, gentleman, was dated 6 April 1781 and proved on 3 October 1781 in Plymouth. He mentions his wife Joanna, and his children, Rebecca Morton, Betsey Morton, Meriah Torrey, his deceased son Nathaniel Morton, his son-in-law John Torrey, and his brother Sylvanus Howes. He appoints his friend James Doten and his son-in-law John Torrey to be the executors of his will. His inventory was taken in October 1781.[3]

In 1782, his real estate was set out to his widow Joanna, and his children, Meriah Torrey, wife of John Torrey, Rebecca Davis, wife of William Davis, and Betty Morton.[4]

In 1782, an account of his estate by James Doten and John Torrey was recorded which included funeral charges, debts paid, legacies paid, cash to the widow, and administration fees.[5]
