John S. Mosby Jr., the third child of his namesake and Pauline Clarke, just as his father and maternal grandfather, would become an attorney. He would move west to Colorado where he was involved in mining law representing several large mining companies. He also lectured on the subject at the Colorado School of Mines.
John would become a journalist, writing for newspapers in Denver. He liked to write about his exploits playing chess and poker.
Having never married, John became ill and died at the age of 51 years.
