Biography

James Henry Moseley was born January 29, 1839, in Union County, South Carolina, the son of Arthur Moseley and Matilda Foster Moseley[1].

A lifelong farmer, he served the Confederacy in Company E of the 13th South Carolina Regiment. He was said to have participated in fourteen battles. After the war, he married Martha Serina Edwards Feagan about 1868, whose husband, Capt. John Henry Feagan, had died in the war. He had three children with her. In 1870, they lived in South Carolina with their children Joseph, William, Edmund, John, Arthur, and Mira[2]. By 1880, they lived in White Plains, Spartanburg County, South Carolina with children Columbus, Martin A., Elmira M., and Napolean B., and a thirty-eight-year-old woman named Fanny Pruett[3].

In 1900 he and Martha lived with their son Martin in Spartanburg[4].

He died 2 Feb 1914 in Cowpens, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, and was buried in Cowpens Cemetery, Cowpens, Spartanburg County, South Carolina[1].

He is mentioned on the death record of his sons, Boney B. Moseley[5], Martin A. Moseley[6], and daughter Myra Moseley Allison[7].
