Roberta was my mother, who was born in Norfolk, Virginia, grew up there, attended Howard University from which she graduated in 1927, taught in Norfolk schools, married my father William Lucas in Atlantic City, came to New York City in the 1930's, was an early social worker in NYC, lived in Queens until her death in 1996. She was a sister of five, had two sons and a grandmother to five.
