eMail Berks mailing list, 14 Jun 05:In Morton Montgomery's History of Berks Co and the BIOS, he has this:>From History of Berks Co, M Montgomery, p 1909, page 395: The ancestor of the Weidner family in Berks County was (I) Adam Weidner, who settled in Oley Township prior to 1744, in which year he bought a considerable tract of land from Benjamin Lee, a part of which, located in the vicinity of Pleasantville, is now the property of Philip D. Hoch. He had three sons, (II) Tychicus, Lazarus and David, whom tradition says were born in Wurtemberg, Germany. They, too, came to Pennsylvania, and Tychicus Weidner, who is also called "Dietrich" Weidner, and his brother Lazarus had settled in Oley Township before 1744. ( I have this: ADAM WEIDNER first had land in Oley in 1727 per 'Oley Valley Heritage: Colonial Years', by Philip Pendleton, pub 1994.Jerg Adam WEIDNER had land in 1735, in Pike, Earl Twp.Dichius Weidner and Lazarus Weidnerboth took the oath and affirmed on 4/11-12/1761 in Philadelphia Supreme court on the same day, both of Berks Co.)More from M Montgomery's History pub 1909: p 395:In 1759 "Dehecus" Weidner paid a federal tax of 17 pounds in Oley. He died in 1798, the year in which his will was probated. He was a large land owner, and at his death left a large estate, which he divided equitably among his children, who were eleven in number and named as follows: Jacob, John, Hannah, Catharine, Esther, Susanna, Mary, Peter, Jonathan, Christian, and Daniel. The eldest daughter, Hannah, was never married. She was bequested [sic] with a house, so much flax every year, and the walnut wash props. Lazarus Weidner, son of Adam the emigrant ancestor, settled in Oley Township, where he and his brother Tychicus owned adjoining estates. These lands were separated by a lane which has since become a public road. In 1759 Lazarus Weidner paid a federal tax of 18 pounds. His will was probated in 1802, the executors beinghis son Jacob and his sons-in-law George Yoder and Jacob Preiss. An item of the will was to the effect that Elizabeth, a daughter of John Lobach, was to have 15 pounds in money. The following children were mentioned in the will: Abraham; Catharine Seisholtz; Elizabeth m. Jacob Preiss; Mary m. George Yoder; Jacob; Daniel; Isaac; David, and John. I have this for will abstract for Lazarus:Lazarus Weidner, OleyWill 5/3/1797 proved 11/26/1802.To Elizabeth Lobach, dau of John Lobach, 15L when 21.To dau Catharine SIESHOLTZ, 1/10 of estate to be in trust.Son Abraham, 1/10 of estate. To grandchildren issue of Elizabeth PRIESS, 1/10. (this implies Eliz. died bef 5/3/1797, since he is bequeathing to his grandchilden of her issue)To dau Mary YODER, 1/10.To dau Susanna YODER, 1/10.To son Jacob 1/10Son Daniel 1/10 and 30 hour clock. To son Isaac, 1/10To David 1/10Son John 1/10Execs: son Jacob and sons-in-law George YODER and John PREISS.Letters to son Jacob, YODER and PREISS renouncing.Wit: Thomas Lee and John BECHTEL.(WHO IS JOHN LOBACH? I show a JOHN LOBACH as son of Peter and Helena LOBACH, b 7/26/1747..... a connection to there WEIDNERs? Wondered if Lazarus WEIDNER had a dau who married John LOBACH and had a dau Elizabeth?)Anyone have this?Anyhow, dau. Elizabeth WEIDNER of Lazarus m a Jacob PRIESS and she had died before Lazarus wrote his will in 1797, since Lazarus is bequeathing to his grandchildren of her issue. This works as I have this:Then I have another Elizabeth PRISE, son of Daniel PRISE of Lower Salford, Montgomery Co PA who is shown as a widow in her father's will of 1802, of JACOB WEIDNER and this seems to match up so far:Daniel PRISE, Lower Salford, Montgomery Co. PAWill of 1802, proved 5/14/1804, book 2.388children: John, George, William, Daniel and Hannah, wife of John Clemmons, "Elisabeth, widow of Jacob WEIDNER".Exec: sons John and DanielWits: Michael Shoemaker and Jacob Shoemaker. The timing could work that Jacob WEIDBER is a husb of this Elisabeth as at Weidner #1 private cemetery in Oley, a Jacob WEIDNER is show with these dates on his stone: 5/30/1756 - 3/3/1800, m 3/30/1784, Elisabeth PREISS, aged 43.10.3, but HE IS SHOWN AS A SON OF "Lazarus" and not "Tichirus" as the BIO says. So are there two Elizabeth PREISS/PRICE or is there a mistake in the BIOs?OR ARE THERE TWO ELISABETH PREISS/PRICE who intermarried with these families?Because, then, I havethis:Per M Montgomery BIOS, in the History of Berks Co, p 395:Jacob Weidner, eldest son of Tychicus, was "first married" to Elizabeth 'Price', and they became the parents of the following children: Peter, who settled at the Falls of the Schuylkill; Daniel, who died aged twenty years; David; Jacob, m. Hannah Yoder (they had Benneville and Mary); Hannah, m. to Daniel Brown, of Pricetown, Berks County (she lived to the great age of ninety -eight years); a daughter m. to David Yoder, moving with him to New York State; and William. No mention as to a second wife of Jacob, son of Tychicus? Does anyone know of one?So who really married Elizabeth PRICE/PREISS! Jacob of Lazarus or Jacob of Tychicus? Or were there 2 Elisabeth PRICE/PREISS in that era? THIS IS A CONFLICT........?????I also have this: Elisabeth PRICE/PREISS also married Peter WEIDNER abt 1810, son of Tychicus, after her first husband Jacob, son of Lazarus died in 1802..... According to MMontgomery, they had children John P and a Mary from this second marriage.Does anyone know how to unravel these WEIDNER lines? I can’t believe that Elisabeth PRICE/PREISS, had a child at age 47!..... but that is on this census: He was born 1811 and she was age 46-47 then? A miracle birth?1850 Census, shows on p 448, Rolls M 432-75:Elizabeth WEIDNER, age 85, born PA (probably a widow) living in h/h of John WEIDNER, age 39 farmer in Pike Twp. (this seems to be her son of Peter WEIDNER - John P WEIDNER)Eliza age 36, PA ( John P married Elizabeth REPPERT)William age 13, PAJonathan, age 12 PASarah age 10, PAJohn, age 8, PACatharine, age 6, PAEliza A age 3Leah A age 6/12moNeed help placing these WEIDNER people. And hope some WEIDNERs and PRICE kin will reply.......-------------------------------------------------------
Diana,I hear your confusion and believe me, I share it 100 per cent. Just to address one of your questions, ...as I read the Montgomery article, I concluded there was no second wife of Jacob Weidner, son of Tychicus because Elizabeth nee Price outlived Jacob. When Montgomery referred to Jacob as "first married to Elizabeth Price" he probably should have said Jacob was the first husband of Elizabeth Price. Elizabeth Price outlived Jacob and married second to this Jacob's younger brother Peter. Here, Montgomery identifies the first husband of Elizabeth Price as Jacob, the son of Tychicus and does not say theson of Lazarus.Morton Montgomery, Vol. I, p. 395-396After the death of (III) Jacob WEIDNER (eldest son of Tychicus) [sic] his widow Elizabeth, nee PRICE, remarried, her second husband being Peter WEIDNER, a younger brother of her first. Peter WEIDNER was born in 1774 and died in 1838, in his sixty-fifth year. His widow survived a number of years, dying July 4, 1857, in the eighty-eighth year of her age. He was a farmer, and owned a large tract of land in Pike Township, this county. To Peter and Elizabeth WEIDNER were born two children, viz.: John P. and Mary. The daughter, who was the youngest, m. Daniel WEIDNER, and they settled in Milton, PA, where they both died.I also read in the same article that Jacob Weidner s/o Lazarus had a wife Veronica(III) Jacob WEIDNER, son of Lazarus, obtained the homestead in Oley, and he is buried there in a private cemetery on the farm. His wife, Veronica, died in 1865. They had three children: Catharine, born March 29, 1823, m. Isaac REIFF; Caroline m. Jacob KEIM; John m. Sarah ANGSTADT, and they had two children, Samuel and George. The son, John, came into possession of his father's homestead, which he cultivated. In my mind there are clearly twoJacob Weidners, one the son of Tychicus and one the son of Lazarous. Jacob son of Tychicus married Elizabeth Price and Jacob son of Lazarus married Veronica.Betty BurdanA little follow up here on Jacob son of Lazarus who married Veronica. These two are buried at the Weidner burial ground #2.WEIDNER, Jacob (b.11-20-1793 d.11-14-1860 age 66-11-24) m. 7-30-1820 Veronica BERTO,m. 40 yrs. had 1 son 3 daughtersWEIDNER, Veronica (nee BERTO) (b.6-8-1793 d.5-?-1865 age 71-11) w/o JacobWhat was confusing to me was why would Lazarus' son Jacob be buried in Tychicus Weidner's family burial ground? I meanits not impossible, but may make some feel that the Jacob buried there was the son of Tychicus.I confirmed the above could not be Tychicus' son with the list of disbursements in Tychicus' estate filewhere we can confirm that Tichycus Weidner had 11 living children, on Aug. 10, 1799.Heirs of Tychicus Weidenr:1) John Weidner2) Jacob Weidner3) Catharine who married Michael Bard4) Esther who marriedJohn Reiter5) Susanna who married John Keim6) Maria Weidner [who married Daniel Neyn/Nine]7) Peter Weidner8) Jonathan Weidner9) Christian Weidner10) Daniel Weidner11) Hannah Weidner [who died unmarried]When Tychicus' daughter Hannah died in and her estate was filed Dec. 29, 1829 she notes that her brother Jacob is deceased. That eliminates the Jacob Weidner at the Wediner burial ground #2 as her brother, because that Jacob was still alive and didn't die for another 35 years.Heirs of Hannah Weidner:1) John Weidner, brother2) Peter Weidner, brother3) Jonathan Wiedner, brother4) Christian Weidner, brother5) Daniel Weidner, the accountant [and brother]6) Daniel Nine and wife Maria, sister7) Catharine Bard, a sister8) Six children, Issue of Jacob Weidner, deceased9) Seven children of Esther Reider, deceased10) Two children of Susanna Keim, deceasedThese two estate files clearly establish the children of Tychicus, and also clearly indicate that Tychicus son Jacob died between 1799 and 1829

A brief account of the original settler, Henry Resch, is given at the above link. The old Resh/Resch/Rush Cemetery makes up the oldest part of the Weavertown Cemetery. The cemetery is located about 1 mile northeast of Bird-in-Hand, PA in Leacock Twp. The land around this cemetery and the farms directly to the north were once owned by the Resh family.I don't know for sure how they are related to Henry Resch and those in theResh cemetery. There are some family burials in Tschantz Cem, Pequea Lane, Lancaster Co,PA, which Ibelieve is in Strasburg township. I think this includes Jacob, but don't have my notes in front of me. It includes a daughter who died atabout age 12. When Jacob Resh died in 1810 he was said to be ofLampeterTownship (Bk 6, p. 343). In 1820, when daughter Catherine married AbrahamBarr, she was said to be of Lampeter Square (newspaper clipping). WhenMartha Rush made out her will in 1842, she said she was of Lampeter township(Will Bk T, Vol. 1, p. 22). I don't know where she is buried.Jacob's father seems to have been John Resh of Strasburg township, who diedin 1767 and whose will was proved onNovember 28, 1767. He mentions a wifeAnna, who may not be the mother of all of his children. He also mentionssons Peter, Jacob, John, and Henry, and two sons-in-laws Peter and HenryMusser (Will Bk Y,vol. 2, pp. 515-16).

This is what I found on the Price family and who might be the parents of Elizabeth Price who married Jacob Weidner.<http://c-23.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/pa/montgomery/history/localmchb0> 060.txtHistory: Local: CHAPTERS LXI - LXII : Lower Salford & Marlborough Townships : Bean's 1884 History of Montgomery Co, PApage 947Jacob Price, or Preus, was a preacher among the Dunkards or German Baptists in Germany, and came from Witgenstein, in 1719, in company, it is stated, with Henry Slingluff. After a brief stay at Germantown with those of their denomination, he removed, in 1721, to his purchase by Indian Creek, in this township, which, in 1734, is represented to be one hundred and fifty acres. He soon erected a saw-mill on that stream, and did an extensivebusiness. There has since been added a chopping-mill and later a grist-mill, owned now by J. K. Shutt. His son John married and settled down here, and had two sons, -Daniel and John. The latter movedto Franklin County, Pa., in early life. Daniel had thirteen children, of whom five sons and two daughters left descendants; their names being John, George, Henry, William, Daniel,Elizabeth and Hannah. Elizabeth was married to Jacob Weidner, and Hannah to John Clemmens. The aforesaid Daniel Price was rated in 1776 as holding three hundred and forty-five acres. The Price family has produced no lessthan seventeen ministers in the Dunkard Church. John Price, son of Jacob, was a poet as well as a minister, Christopher Saur, of Germantown, having published, in 1753, a small collection of his hymns. Elder William W. Price, who was born in 1789 on a part of the old homestead, in 1814, became a minister, which position he retained until his death, in 1849. He was the author of a number of German hymns, besides translating from the English some of the most popular, which were collected and published by J. E. Pfautz, at Ephrata, in 1838.-Betty.
