Biography

Solomon W. Moss was born on December 20, 1820 in Preble, Ohio to Jacob and Mary Ann (Scherer) Moss. He married Rebecca Draper on July 1, 1843 in Vermilion, Illinois. They were the parents of Mary Jane (1843-1876), Celinda (1845-1897), Angeline (1847-1933), Sylvia Ellen (1849–1887), Samuel Jacob (1851-1929), Sarah Elizabeth (1853–1907), Armilda Ann (1855-1940), Thomas Jefferson (1860-1917), Clarinda Rebecca (1863-1942), Solomon Columbus (1863-1901), John William Sherman (1866-1937), and Dora Melissa (1870-1945). During the Civil War, he served as a private in a Missouri militia. He married Mary Holcomb on September 7, 1880 in Nodaway, Missouri. He died on March 11, 1903, in Ravenwood, Missouri, at the age of 82, and was buried in Wilcox Cemetery, in Jackson Township, Missouri.
