Henry Webster Moss was born on 25 October, 1889,[1] at Kilgobbin, and his birth was registered in the Superintendent Registrar's District of Rathdown, Registrar's District of Glencullen, in the Union of Rathdown, County Dublin, Ireland, on 20 November by Alice O'Connor of 40 Nanclagh Road, Dublin, who was present at the birth.[2]
Henry Webster Moss was baptised on 17 November, 1889, at the Kilternan Church of Ireland Parish Church, Kilternan, County Dublin.[1]
Henry was the son of Henry William Moss, Gentleman, and his wife, Susan Moss formerly Webster,[2] who lived at Elmfield, Kilgobbin, County Dublin.[1]
When the 1901 Census of Ireland was taken on 31 March, the five residents of house 21 in Upper Leeson Street, Rathmines & Rathgar East District Electoral Division, County Dublin, were:[4]
Elizabeth Webster, 38 yrs old, unmarried Head of the Family, born in County Dublin, House Owner, who could read and write and belonged to the Church of Ireland;
Charlotte Webster, 30 yrs old, unmarried School Teacher, born in County Dublin, who could read and write and belonged to the Church of Ireland;
John Webster, 42 yrs old, unmarried Canadian Government Agent, born in County Dublin, who could read and write and belonged to the Church of Ireland;
Emily McGeer, 24 yrs old, Elizabeth's unmarried General Servant, born in County Kildare, a Roman Catholic, who could read and write; and
Henry Webster Moss, 11 yrs old, Elizabeth's visitor, born in County Dublin, a scholar, who could read and write and belonged to the Church of Ireland;
When the 1911 Census of Ireland was taken on 2 April, the eight residents of house 4 in Milltown Road, Rathmines & Rathgar East District Electoral Division, St Peters Parish, South Dublin Poor Law Union, Upper Cross Barony, County Dublin, were:[3]
Henry William Moss, 52 yrs old, head of the family, born in County Dublin, Merchant, Director of Woods Rebb and Co Dublin, who could read and write, belonged to the Church of Ireland, and had been married for 22 years and had four children;
Henry Webster Moss, 21 yrs old, Henry's single son, born in County Dublin, Chemist - ARCsI Dublin, who could read and write and belonged to the Church of Ireland;
Aileen Mary Moss, 20 yrs old, Henry's single daughter, born in County Dublin, who could read and write and belonged to the Church of Ireland;
Geoffrey Lawton Moss, 16 yrs old, Henry's single son, born in County Dublin, a scholar, who could read and write and belonged to the Church of Ireland;
Arnold Wilson Moss, 14 yrs old, Henry's single son, born in County Dublin, a scholar, who could read and write and belonged to the Church of Ireland;
Elizabeth Webster, 48 yrs old, Henry's single sister-in-law, born in County Dublin, Owner of House Property, who could read and write and belonged to the Church of Ireland;
Charlotte Webster, 40 yrs old, Henry's single sister-in-law, born in County Dublin, Owner of House Property and Teacher, who could read and write and belonged to the Church of Ireland; and
Elizabeth Fitzsimons, 27 yrs old, Henry's General Domestic Servant, born in County Dublin, a Roman Catholic, who could read and write.
Henry Webster Moss, of full age, bachelor, Research Chemist, resident of 27 Forest Avenue, Marsh, Huddersfield, son of Henry William Moss, Merchant, married Jeannie Holmes Montgomery, of full age, spinster, resident of 45 Upper Sackville Street, Dublin, daughter of Alexander Nixon Montgomery, Physician, on 29 April, 1918, at St Mary's church in the parish of Donnybrook, in the Registrar's District of Dublin, County Dublin, according to the rites of the Church of Ireland, by licence, in the presence of Alex Nixon Montgomery, C E S Adams, G Lawton Moss and Anna S Nixon-Montgomery.[5]
Henry was the father of:
Arnold A H Moss, resident of Knocknamaddy in 1966;[6]
Henry Webster Moss, widower, retired Industrial Chemist, died from Broncho-pneumonia, at Knocknamaddy on 4 March, 1966, aged 75 years, and his death was registered in the Ballybay District, in the Superintendent Registrar's District of Castleblayney, County Monaghan, on 7 March, by Henry's son, Arnold A H Moss, resident of Knocknamaddy, who was present at his death.[6]
Henry was buried in Kilternan Parish Church Cemetery, County Dublin, with his wife, where their headstone is inscribed:[7]
