John Moss was born in Chelsworth, Suffolk, England.
John Moss migrated from England to New Zealand.
John was born on the 25 December 1829, and baptized on the 9 May 1830 at the Parish Church of All Saints', in the Village of Chelsworth, northwest of the City of Ipswich, Parish of Chelsworth, in Suffolk, England[1]. He was the son of Plumber and Glazier, John (Moss) and Elizabeth (Green), who married on the 15 January 1829 at the Parish Church of All Saints', in the Village of Chelsworth, northwest of the City of Ipswich, Parish of Chelsworth, in Suffolk, England[2]. In 1841, John (11) lived with parents John and Elizabeth; siblings Anna (8), Walter (4), Frederick (2) and Journeymen, Edward (Rand) and Thomas (Scrivener). Their home was located at Market Place in the Village of Bildeston, northwest of the city of Ipswich, in Suffolk, England[3][4]. Now 24 years old, John worked as a Plumber (Journeyman) in 1851. He lived with parents John (51), Elizabeth (49) and siblings Ann (18), Walter (14) and Frederick (11) and they were still at Market Place, in Bildeston, Suffolk, England. His father, John was born in Edwardstone, Suffolk and mother, Elizabeth, in Semer, Suffolk[5][6].
It is not clear when he emigrated to New Zealand but he married widow, Maria (King) Lilley on the 25 February 1875 in the small Town of Ashley, Waimakariri District, in North Canterbury, in the South Island of New Zealand[7]. I don't believe the couple had any children. From 1880 to around 1906, John and Maria lived at Marshman's Road, in Ashley, Cheviot District, Canterbury, New Zealand[8]. During that time, John worked as a a Farmer.
Unfortunately, Maria died in 1907 and John lived as a widower at Victoria Street, in the Town of Rangiora, 29 kilometres (18 mi) north of the City of Christchurch, in Canterbury, New Zealand until his death in 1914[9]. At the grand old age of 84, John passed away on the 8 November 1914 at Victoria, Street, in the Town of Rangiora, Waimakariri District, Canterbury, New Zealand[10]. His burial took place on the 10 November 1914 at the Presbyterian area, Plot: 634 at Balcairn Cemetery, 303 Leithfield Road, in the Town of Leithfield, Canterbury, New Zealand[11]. The inscription on the Headstone reads:--In Loving Memory of MARIA MOSS The Beloved Wife of JOHN MOSS, Who Died at Rangiora, June 3, 1907, Aged 82 Years. At Rest In Peace. Also Of JOHN MOSS, Died Nov. 8th, 1914, Aged 84 Years. Blessed Are the Dead That Die In the Lord[12].
